Idec combine with Sankey again

After the recent success of supplying made to order sizing of Gridmesh for the IGA complex in Ingham north Queensland, there was no hesitation for Idec to combine with Sankey again for the supply of Gridmesh to be used as air conditioning decks on the roof tops of the new Homeworld development in Helensvale on the Gold Coast.
With a the complexity of a project like this Sankey was a willing participant in the supply of over 500 sheets of galvanized Gridmesh with an extraordinary 300+ different sizes as well as accessories like clamp sets and edge trims.
With short notice and a tight window of opportunity for supply and installation it was a delicate balance in having material delivered on time and packaged to some very specific requirements. Each piece of this very large jig-saw puzzle needed to fit perfectly and with many different buildings it was imperative that every air conditioning deck was packaged in a way that allowed it to be craned into position and installed with speed, ease and precision.
Through many hours of meticulous planning and consultation Sankey was able to achieve every requirement set out by Idec to ensure the seamless supply of Gridmesh. Having versatility and thinking outside the norm allowed Sankey to supply in a manner that suited the customers' needs and surpassed their expectations.
"Very impressed" was the answer given when following up on the work Sankey had done to supply Gridmesh and accessories to Idec for the Homeworld project and with more buildings yet to be done on site including the Southern Hemispheres largest suspended steel floor building things are looking good for future works.
To date, Sankey and Idec have been able to combine for projects such as IGA in Ingham, Homeworld in Helensvale both using Sankey Gridmesh and James Cook University in Townsville using Sankey Louvamesh. Together we look forward to many more projects that will challenge the way things have been done in the past to make the supply of mesh more than just placing an order.
Homeworld Helensvale on Queensland's famous Gold Coast is due to be opened later in 2008 and can be found just off the Hope Island Rd exit of the Pacific Motorway.

Sankey a winner at Olympic Park
by Nigel Price, Sales Manager - Building Products, Sankey NSW
Situated in the Sydney Olympic Park complex, this project forms part of the public transport hub. Sankey Louvre Mesh was used to provide shading for the seats and waiting areas in the bus turnaround.
The job was taken from planning stage to completion in conjunction with McGregor Westlake Architecture. Early discussion revolved around the type of mesh to be used and what needed to be done to the mesh to create the finished product. The final product is a result of moving outside the square and manufacturing product to the clients requirements, rather than to standard sizes.
"The Louvre Mesh looks amazing," says Andre Koepcke, McGregor Westlake Architecture, "People who see the images the first time think they are looking at coloured glass sheets. It is really amazing what visual effects this material can display."
Overall this is the result of a supplier such as Sankey working with the Designers and the Fabricators to create something that not only looks spectacular, but is practical and functional too.

Renowned Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi famously stated "You are neither right nor wrong because the crowd disagrees with you. You are right because your data and reasoning are right." If one accepts Brancusi's logic, the decision for Sankey Australia Pty. Ltd. to purchase the under utilised expanded metal business from Blue Scope Steel, was unequivocally right.
In just over 18 months, Sankey's combined technical and managerial talents have turned the business around, so that it now contributes significantly to the company's overall bottom line. Projections for continued steady growth have lead to new sales appointments in both Queensland and Victoria.
Matt Kienhe flies the flag for Sankey Australia in Queensland, and at the risk of a shaky pun, you wouldn't find a keener rep. His appointment in November 2006, provides Sankey with direct access to markets in one of Australia's fastest growing state economies.
Increasing demand from Victoria made it prudent to put a Building Products representative on the ground in that state also, and since April 2007, Tess Ackermans has filled that role. Her vast experience in the steel industry, and straight talking style make her an ideal agent for improving the Sankey profile in Victoria.
Despite some scepticism at the move to buy a business deemed unnecessary by one of the major players in Australian steel manufacturing, Sankey Australia have shown that with vision, self belief and determination, great things are possible. "The crowd" is not necessarily right.

It takes a cool head to come up with an inspired solution in the heat.
This is precisely what happened when Platinum Roofing, one of Queensland's oldest roofing companies, was involved in the building of the government-funded Wondai Hospital, 240 kilometres north-west of Brisbane.
With summer temperatures hovering around 40°C, the company wanted a product that offered an alternative to traditional chipboard panels under the roofline and eaves. But that product had to provide screening as well as ventilation; no mean feat given that the area produces wild variation in climatic conditions including severe summer storms.
John Walsh, Project Manager of Platinum Roofing, said the company was pleased with the decision to use Sankey Louvamesh, a high-quality galvanised steel mesh designed for use as a sunscreen, privacy screen, wind break and in glare reduction.
"Sankey Louvamesh is an ideal alternative because of its strength, appealing aesthetics and ease of installation," Mr Walsh said. "It can also be bent giving greater flexibility in design."
"It provides maximum shading without impeding airflow."
Sankey Australia is working with Platinum Roofing and the Queensland Government on future projects that will use Sankey's expanded metal products and its highly-efficient Smartflo Guttering range.

Sankey Expanded Metal Product Guide
Sankey's expanded metal mesh range includes popular brands such as Ornamesh®, Gridmesh®, Louvamesh™, Maximesh®, Balustmesh®, Rendalok® and Ruralmesh® formerly offered by BlueScope Lysaght.
Our versatile product range is ideal for applications in architecture, building design, rural applications, and production of consumer products which use metal. The range includes products well suited for decorative and practical screens for privacy, and against sun and wind, and others that are ideal for flooring, balustrading, and security.
The manufacturing process of expanded metal mesh involves taking a flat sheet of metal and simultaneously slitting and stretching it to form a diamond shaped hole pattern. During the process no metal is lost and the final product is stronger per kilogram and lighter per metre than the original sheet of metal.
Often incorporated as a popular architectural feature, expanded metal mesh offers the benefits of decoration, protection, support and security. This versatile mesh allows light, heat, and air through, while retaining its strength, forming a very strong barrier for security purposes.

At last, some good news for the environment!
Australian company sees amazing results from recyclable Aluminium mesh products.
Measured in terms of quantity or value, aluminium exceeds every other metal (except iron), and is important in virtually all segments of the world economy. Once considered a precious metal, aluminium was regarded as more valuable than gold.
Aluminium can be recycled again and again. At a time when the global community is concentrating on environmental preservation, Aluminium is proving very valuable indeed.
Sankey is one Australian company who has successfully harnessed the beneficial qualities of Aluminium in its expanded metal mesh products. Taking over the expanded metal mesh business from BlueScope Lysaght, Sankey initially concentrated on the manufacture of mesh using steel with increasing success. However, a recent influx of enquiries into the manufacture of mesh in aluminium has led to this exciting new venture.
"Considered remarkable for its resistance to corrosion and its light weight, Aluminium can provide the strength of steel, but with only half the weight. It is an ideal product for use in expanded metal mesh products." Stated a materials engineer for Sankey.
Often incorporated as a popular architectural feature, expanded metal mesh offers the benefits of decoration, protection, support and security. This versatile mesh allows light, heat and air through, while retaining its strength (forming a very strong barrier for security purposes).

Sankey, Australia's oldest electric steel products manufacturer, who nearly went under in 2000, has seen a massive turnaround in the last 6 years since becoming a member of the CMG Engineering Group.
Traditionally Sankey manufactured products which supported CMG Group sister companies. A major contributor to its recent growth came from acquisition of the Smartflo guttering product line. Additional investment in infrastructure added a new aluminium diecasting arm to the business. Most recently Sankey have acquired the expanded metal mesh line of its previous owner Lysaght.
The expansion has included a new 4000 sq. metre diecasting plant in Melbourne's outer east, and a new 10,000 sq metre metal pressing factory in Newcastle due for handover in September.
Part of Sankey's continuing transition towards an important link in the supply of metal products for industry is their new logo, and a brand new website www.sankey.com.au.
